Vancouver Island Avalanche Bulletin

Bulletin covers the mountainous region of Vancouver Island from the Mt. Cain Ski Area in the North to the Beaufort range to the South including the mountains of Strathcona Provincial Park.

2ND ANNUAL PARTY FOR THE BULLETIN A GREAT SUCCESS. MANY THANKS!

Many thanks are due to all of the great sponsors and generous folks who came out to support the bulletin at the second annual “Party for the BUlletin” on Saturday, 23 January at the Riding Fool Hostel in Cumberland. The vibe was awesome again this year. The music from three live bands kept the crowd dancing and the beer from Surgenor brewing flowed nicely. As was the case last year the silent auction was a fun feature enjoyed by all with lots of folks going home with fine booty from great sponsors like Valhalla Pure Outfitters in Courtenay and Tyax Lodge Heli Skiing.

We achieved our goal of raising half of the bulletin’s operating budget for the year with $4500 raised. This is enough to continue to deliver twice weekly bulletins to the island mountain going public for the remainder of the season. we would love to improve the bulletin by going to three forecasts a week thus filling in the missing “gap day” as well as not having to forecast three days out. We can always use more forecaster days in the field as well. In the hope of making these improvements we are always on the look out for new sponsors, donations from the public and new ideas for raising funds. If you can help with any of these things please do get in touch. Sponsors of the bulletin access a very specifically targeted group of people numbering more than 20,000 hits to the site each winter season.

Below is a list of all the generous businesses and people who made this years even such a great success. Many thanks to them and the folks who came out in support. We’re already looking forward to next year!
